SymNav is the backbone of GE's suite of digital network security products. With this free software available with any of GE's SymSuite products, users can remotely monitor security systems, stream video directly to a personal computer, and view video streams directly from the SymVeo network camera, SymNet encoder/decoder, and SymDec recorders.

SpeedStream™ technology allows a user to view all cameras from the SymDec family in quad format, all on a single stream with D1 resolution. Four cameras from four different recorders can be viewed using SpeedStream for a total of 16 camera views. This method of streaming high-resolution images saves bandwidth, taking up only 1 to 2 Mb/s. SymNav software recognizes the SymDec unit it connects to and provides the user with complete access to that unit's features. Easily switch between viewing live and recorded video, or search by date, time, camera, alarms or events.

With SymNav, the user can also view images stored on a CD, DVD, or the hard drive of a PC. Printing and archiving images is simple; images can be saved in mpc of mpg file formats. A powerful address book lets the user enter information on each specific site that includes description, IP address, Ethernet connection type, unit type, and camera quantity. Controlled access to multiple SymDec recorders can be set for multiple users. Each user is assigned to a group that has specific access to rights to some or all of the sites in a system.
