Security is a people issue and as in medicine, prevention is better than cure. A hospital is typically a mixture of public access areas, departments with restricted access and high security zones. Costly equipment and a variety of patients, staff, vendors and visitors constantly moving in a large facility. All these elements has to be taken into consideration when designing hospital security. Also the public now expect to see evidence of security and are generally supportive that the discipline has taken over enforcement functions.
