Torino 2006 Olympic Games held with Power Protection from GE
The Power Quality (UPS) segment of GE Consumer & Industrial received several significant orders for the Olympic Games in Turin (Italy).
GE's leading UPS technology was installed at the main stadium to secure the flawless operation of all equipment, starting with the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games and lasting throughout the Olympic events and media transmissions.
Over 1150 GE UPS units were installed ranging from 1 kVA up to 1 MVA (2*500 kVA for NBC). The units provided an autonomy time up to 60 minutes, and were remotely connected and monitored via GE's new IRIS software management solution.
GE won this strategic order by offering the best technical UPS solution together with a comprehensive turnkey service concept. The solution included 25 service engineers, 24x7 presence of an on-site monitoring specialist at the main technology center and 9 other sites in Turin, and a guaranteed two-hour intervention time.
